Bhubaneswar, Aug 6: Heavy monsoon showers swept across coastal Odisha over the past 24 hours, bringing much-needed relief from humid weather while creating concerns over waterlogging in several low-lying areas.

The state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 107.9 mm rainfall till 8:30 am on Thursday, marking the highest rainfall among coastal Odisha locations during the period, according to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Several other parts of the state also witnessed intense rainfall activity. Jenapur in Jajpur district received 106.8 mm, while Patamundai in Kendrapara recorded 100 mm rainfall.
Heavy showers were reported across multiple areas of Cuttack district, with Mahanga receiving 92 mm, Nischintakoili 82 mm, Kantapada 81 mm and Salipur 65 mm of rain.
Rainfall activity continued in other coastal districts as well. Bhandaripokhari in Bhadrak recorded 80 mm, while Jajpur district reported significant showers at Sukinda (76 mm), Jajpur town (75 mm) and Bari (65 mm).
Balasore, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts also received heavy rainfall, with Rajghat in Balasore recording 74.8 mm, Biridi in Jagatsinghpur 72 mm and Aul in Kendrapara 66 mm.
The widespread rainfall has brought relief to residents after days of hot and uncomfortable weather conditions. However, continuous showers may lead to temporary waterlogging in urban areas and disruption in daily activities.
Authorities have advised people to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to water accumulation, and follow weather updates issued by the IMD.
With the monsoon becoming more active, Odisha is expected to witness further rainfall activity in the coming days, providing relief to agriculture and replenishing water resources across the state.
