India, Oct 21: PizzaExpress, the UK’s pizza brand, is bringing its new Sourdough Base to India from 15 October 2026. Launching across PizzaExpress restaurants pan-India, the range features eight new pizzas, with four vegetarian offerings, including Classic Veg, Hummus and Salsa, Truffle Fungi, Burrata and Pesto, and four non-vegetarian offerings, including Harissa Chicken, Honey Chilli Chicken, Creamy Garlic Prawns, and Meat Lovers.

The new range gives guests another way to enjoy PizzaExpress alongside its classic and iconic Romana base. The Classic base offers a softer, familiar pizza experience, while the Romana is the brand’s signature thinner, crispier, and fancier base. The new Sourdough base has a light and airy center, crisp, charred edges, and a depth of flavour that comes from slow fermentation. At the heart of the base is a starter culture that PizzaExpress has nurtured in its test kitchen over the years. The dough is given time to ferment slowly, developing its distinctive texture and flavour while bringing a different style of pizza to the menu.

The base is paired with PizzaExpress’s signature tomato passata, made by the Greci family in Parma, Italy, using sweet San Marzano tomatoes crushed within 12 hours of harvest and finished with a basil leaf. The recipe has been perfected over decades and remains central to the PizzaExpress experience globally.

The new range brings together a vibrant mix of ingredients from fresh mozzarella, burrata, and pesto to mushrooms, truffle, hummus, salsa, prawns, chicken, meat, and much more.

Each pizza is handcrafted by the skilled Pizzaiolos in the open kitchen, from stretching the dough and adding the toppings to baking each pizza to perfection. Their technique and knowledge of the dough play an important role in creating the Sourdough Base and continuing the hands-on pizza-making approach that has been part of PizzaExpress since Peter Boizot opened the first restaurant in Soho, London, in 1965.

Kumar Asit, Brand CEO, PizzaExpress, said,

“Sourdough gives us a new way to experience PizzaExpress. The slow fermentation and starter culture give the base a light, airy middle and crisp, charred edge, while our passata, fresh ingredients, and the skill of our Pizzaiolos bring the pizza together. With eight pizzas on the new Sourdough Base, guests can explore the format across a range of flavours.”

Launching on 15th October 2026, the new Sourdough range arrives ahead of the festive season, when people come together for family meals, catch-ups, and celebrations. The launch gives guests a new reason to discover PizzaExpress, whether they are trying the Sourdough Base at a restaurant with friends and family or ordering it at home.

Rohan Pewekar, CEO, Gourmet Investments Hospitality Group (GIHG), said,

“The festive season is an important time for people to come together over good food, and we wanted to give guests something new to experience this year. The pan-India launch of our Sourdough Base gives them another PizzaExpress format to choose from, whether they are joining us at the restaurant or enjoying the pizzas at home.”

The PizzaExpress Sourdough Base and its eight-pizza range will be available in Pan-India from 15 October 2026 at PizzaExpress restaurants and through online delivery.
