KIMS Hospitals, BIMS & leading Liverpool NHS institutions announce strategic UK - India healthcare collaboration

Hyderabad, 14th October 2026: KIMS Hospitals, the British Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) and leading NHS organisations from Liverpool have announced their shared intent to establish a clinical and academic collaboration aimed at fostering long-term research, medical education, and healthcare innovation between India and the United Kingdom.

The collaboration brings together KIMS and BIMS with NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group (UHL Group), Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust and The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust.

This marks the first partnership of its kind bringing together multiple NHS trusts in the UK with an Indian private hospital group.

This partnership intends to establish a dynamic platform for the organisations to develop programs for research, medical training and clinical exchanges. This platform will also enable Indian doctors to gain valuable experience within the UK healthcare system and for UK doctors to undertake placements across the KIMS Hospitals network in India, with BIMS supporting the coordination of these opportunities.

This announcement reflects the shared vision and intent of the organisations. The formal framework will be governed by the MoU signed between the Parties and other standard institutional agreements.

Dr Bhaskar Rao Bollineni, Chairman & Managing Director of KIMS Hospitals, said: “For KIMS Hospitals, this is an important step in building a deeper international partnership with Liverpool. Liverpool brings internationally recognised specialist expertise, while KIMS combines scale and advanced technology with recognised strengths in robotic surgery, transplants and complex tertiary and quaternary care.

“We see great potential through BIMS and our Liverpool partners for joint research, fellowships and the exchange of knowledge between our teams. We want this to become a long-term partnership that creates real benefits for healthcare professionals and ultimately for patients in both countries.”

Dr Sai Pillarisetti, Managing Director of BIMS, said: “It is exciting to see stronger links developing between Liverpool’s NHS organisations and KIMS Hospitals, bringing together organizations with complementary strengths and shared ambitions. BIMS is delighted to be contributing to that process, helping bridge these relationships and develop practical initiatives that deliver value across both systems. Healthcare has no borders, and stronger UK-India links here can strengthen the broader partnership being built between our two countries.”

Cllr Liam Robinson, Leader of Liverpool City Council, said: "Liverpool has a long history of building international partnerships that deliver real benefits for our residents, institutions and businesses. Through the Global Liverpool Partnership, we are bringing together the city's world-leading strengths in health, innovation, education and investment to create new opportunities for growth and collaboration. "This partnership demonstrates the power of the Team Liverpool approach, with organisations from across the city working together to forge meaningful international relationships and open new doors for research, innovation and economic development. We look forward to strengthening our ties with Hyderabad and building on the shared ambitions that connect our two cities."

Professor Jim Gardner, Deputy Group Chief Medical Officer at UHL Group, said: “We are delighted to announce this exciting partnership between UHL Group, KIMS Hospitals and the British Institute of Medical Sciences, which will create opportunities for our staff to learn from international colleagues, share expertise, collaborate on research and innovation, and support professional development through exchange and fellowship programmes. These stronger links will help us advance healthcare knowledge and practice, delivering benefits for the patients and communities we serve at home and abroad.”

Professor Rafael Guerrero, Congenital Cardiac Surgeon and Director of Alder Hey Global Health, said: "We are excited to be part of this new collaboration between healthcare organisations in Liverpool and Hyderabad. Alder Hey has a long-standing commitment to sharing specialist children’s healthcare expertise and learning from partners, globally, where that sharing and learning can create meaningful benefits for children, families and our teams.

“This agreement provides an opportunity to explore shared interests with KIMS Hospitals, BIMS and our Liverpool partners, in areas such as education, research, innovation and the exchange of clinical knowledge. We look forward to developing this collaboration and identifying where working together can add genuine value.”

KIMS Hospitals is a listed Indian healthcare group operating 29 hospitals and 8000+ beds across India, providing a broad range of tertiary and quaternary healthcare services.

BIMS is a UK-based institution developing international partnerships across healthcare, education and research.

The Liverpool NHS organisations collectively represent a broad range of acute and specialist NHS services and research capabilities in the UK. UHL Group itself operates across 6 hospital sites in Liverpool, while Alder Hey, Clatterbridge and The Walton Centre are renowned specialist Trusts with expertise in pediatrics, cancer and neurosciences respectively.

The Liverpool delegation to Hyderabad follows the recently signed UK - India Free Trade Agreement, reflecting both governments’ intention to deepen collaboration between the two countries.
